Sunday morning was our work party to build our new steel targets. In attendance was Mark, West, Garl, Ron, and Don. A huge thank you goes out to Don who hosted the work party in his shop and provided the tools and majority of the expertise. The whole operation took a touch over 6 hours and resulted in the construction of 30 stands, 30 caps, and 30 plates. Expect to see these targetsĀ debut at the February IDPA match.
In a sense of openness and as a gift to the shooting community we hope to have a full set of plans published here in the near future. We still have a couple of issues to work out of which the primary is too much slop between the 2x4 and the base socket. If we build these again we will probably use 3/16" wall for the 2x4 socket. That should make for a tighter fit. In the short term we are just going to shim the bases with lathe.
Here are a few pictures from the work party. Expect more as I get them. Click on any of the pictures below for a larger view.
Also, since I'm sure I'll be getting questions on this, yes the one plate is on a hot plate. Turns our the AR500 we used has to be hot when you weld it or the welds tend to pop off. This was our method for heating the weld zone.
